Robinsons Supermarket Corp. has strengthened its foothold in Cebu with the opening of two stores, bringing to seven its total number of branches in the province.

Angela Totanes, marketing manager, said six stores are under the Robinsons Supermarket brand while one store is the upscale Robinsons Selections.

The Gokongwei-led company, a unit of Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc., yesterday opened the first Robinsons Selections outside Manila at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu. It is also the biggest so far.

It will open today another Robinsons Supermarket, the sixth in Cebu, across the barangay hall in Talamban. Other existing Robinsons Supermarkets in Cebu are in Fuente Osmeña, Banilad, Mactan, Talisay and along Cebu South Road.

Totanes said Robinsons Selections is a spacious, more upscale supermarket, with wide aisles, a lot more imported brands and a more premium selection of merchandise. It also has a food-to-go section as well as fruit and salad bars.

Two other Selections stores are located in Makati and Fort, both in Metro Manila. But only the Cebu branch has a sushi bar, a lounge for Robinsons Rewards card holders and gift-wrapping services, Totanes added.

“Opening this upscale supermarket in Cebu is our way of acknowledging the continuous progress of the city and the growing sophistication among Cebuano shoppers,” said Jody Gadia, general manager, in a statement.

Nationwide, Totanes said they are set to open a supermarket in Nueva Ecija before the year ends.

“We’ll be ending the year with 121 stores, across all three formats,” Totanes said.

Robinsons Supermarket operates in three formats —Robinsons Supermarket, Robinsons Selections and neighborhood stores under the Robinsons Easymart brand.
