Winston on Dumanjug case: Garcias are not violent
FOR all their influence, the Garcia family won’t resort to violence to gain power, One Cebu gubernatorial aspirant Winston Garcia said.
He said this in response to last week’s shootout tha killed Marciano Tiwan and barangay councilman Wilfredo Albios, both suspects in the strafing of a vice mayoral candidate’s vehicle in Dumanjug town.
“The Garcias are not known to be violent people. You know what, that strafing incident is very questionable. You use a grenade and it only dented the car and it did not even explode?” he told Cebu Daily News.
Winston, brother of Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia, also claimed that the town has never been an election hotspot or included in the watchlist of election hotspots before.
“It only happened when this hotheaded (Vice Mayor Efren) Gica entered the picture,” the One Cebu gubernatorial candidate said.
The mayor called on the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate both the shootout and the strafing incident.
He alleged that these may have been staged in order to place Dumanjug in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) watchlist.
“They are making excuses and using police as their goons to kill people. We will find out if we can file necessary charges for murder,” Garcia said.
Winston Garcia said One Cebu will provide legal support to the families of Tiwan and Albios if they decide to file murder charges.
“We will gather evidence and reveal it in due time,” he said.
