A TOTAL of 74 grade six pupils recently participated in the group dynamics activity that kicked off AboitizLand’s flagship corporate social responsibility program called “You Can Be A Hero” at the Don Calixto C. Yongco Elementary School in barangay Tawason, Mandaue City.

The You Can Be A Hero Program is a series of enhanced learning sessions for grade six pupils held every Friday from 3 to 5 p.m.

AboitizLand employees tutor pupils in subjects like Mathematics, English, Science, Filipino and Social Studies, with lessons on leadership and personality development through group dynamics sessions using fancy instructional materials.

Deviating from the traditional way of instruction, lessons are easily captured and understood by the graduating class.

While the program helps to improve pupils’ academic performance, it also aims to inspire pupils to be better citizens.

Since 2010, the program has made significant changes in the academic performance of the beneficiaries. In 2011, the Don Calixto C. Yongco Elementary School ranked second among the elementary schools in Mandaue City in the National Achievement Test.

Now on its 6th year, the You Can Be A Hero program continues to fulfill AboitizLand’s brand promise of nurturing communities by helping to provide quality education to children in the communities.
