THE SIPAT 98 grabbed hold of second place in the standings in Division 2 after they blasted away the 2002 Legendary Lions, 61-43, in the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference Sinulog Homecoming Cup last weekend at the USC North Campus gym.
Teresito Pasculado led Sipat’s balanced scoring attack with 12 points to lift their win-loss record to 5-1, half a game behind the current leaders, Batch 1999, who boast of a 6-1 mark. The Lions on the other hand, fell to an even 3-3 in spite of the 22 points of Anjo Ynclino.
In other matches, the 2001 Dos Mil Uno engineered a pair of victories to claim solo fourth place. They first slipped past the 1995 Pirates, 82-79, behind the 14 of Luis Santos and the 12 of Bryan Quisumbing. Later in the weekend, they registered yet another close victory, this time outlasting the USC North Faculty, 72-68.
Charles Parrotina exploded for 29 points in that match but he got plenty of help from last conference’s MVP, AJ San Juan, who scored 15 and Quisumbing and Lyndon Cuevas, who added 11 markers each. The two wins boosted Batch 2001’s record to 5-2 while the Batch 1995 and the Faculty remained winless at 0-7 and 0-6, respectively.
