THE Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) is fielding at least 50 parking attendants to assist their 150 traffic enforcers manning busy intersections in the city.

Heavy traffic buildup was experienced in most parts of Cebu City starting yesterday in the run up to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

“We pulled out some of our parking attendants. This is our new scheme.

“We prioritize the manning of traffic because it’s started to get busy,” said CCTO operations chief Jonathan Tumulak yesterday.

The heavy vehicle traffic is part of the yuletide season’s busy shopping activities in public markets, malls, department stores and shopping centers.

Tumulak said the heavy traffic will continue until Dec. 24 as people make last-minute purchases for the holidays.

Traffic enforcers extended their duties by one hour due to the work demands.

They don’t have vacation leaves this month and are required to be in full force to manage the holiday traffic.

Tumulalk said there are more visitors than usual in Cebu City this year because of the opening of several new malls.
