A seven-year-old girl drowned while collecting seaweed with her cousins in  barangay Sangat, San Fernando town, southern Cebu Wednesday morning.

Tricia Gedaro, a grade 2 pupil,  did not make it to the Carcar Provincial Hospital.

Her  cousins, aged 9 and 11, were rescued.

The children were with their 69-year-old grandmother Erlinda Gedaro  collecting seaweed during  low tide.

Tricia may have  accidentally slipped and fallen  into the deep portion of the sea, saidPO1 Salvador Saavedra, San Fernando police desk officer.

Her two cousins  jumped into the water and tried to save Tricia but they almost drowned because they didn’t know how to swim.

Two fishermen passing by pulled out the three children from the sea.

However, Tricia was already unconscious.

A case of  near-drowning was reported in Moalboal town, southwest Cebu.

An 18-year-old student was swimming with friends  in sitio Panagsama, barangay Basdiot last Wednesday afternoon when the incident happened.

Raphael Ouano, a resident of Maria Luisa Subdivisionin Cebu City, was brought to the South General Hospital in Naga City.
