TWO houses in Cebu City were   destroyed by fire on New Year’s Eve.

On Jan. 1, three empty classrooms burned down in Luyan Elementary School in San Remigio town, north Cebu.

Faulty electrical wiring was believed to have caused the fire in the house of Lorita Alquizar in barangay Ermita, Cebu City  which started  at 9:30 p.m.  Two hours later, another fire broke out in barangay Inayawan and burned down an  abandoned house.

Fire investigators said they suspect it was caused by a  cigarette butt carelessly tossed away.

In Cebu province, a house and school building were  razed in separate fires on the first day of 2016.

Police said an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire that started in the Health and Economics classroom past 9 a.m.  in San Remigio town said PO1 Felipe Cabague Jr.

In Moalboal town, southern Cebu, a family was left homeless after their house was destroyed by fire.

Police said the four-year-old son of Teresita Rabor was seen playing with  matches before the fire broke out at 2:25 p.m.
