CEBUANO word wizard Dartspeed Eslao was crowned the champion as he trounced veteran Martus Teodoro Jr., 481-464, in the final round of the yearend scrabble rated tournament at the Cebu City Sports Institute (CCSI) last Saturday.

Eslao also earned the highest single move with 561 points and highest single turn with the word “ASQUINT” worth 107 points.

Trailing Eslao and Teodoro were Joel Toroy (3rd), Jowar Ayuno (4th) and Nigerian Julius Tambou (5th).

Scrabble players will compete once again at the Sinulog Scrabble open on Jan. 9 at the CCSI. It will serve as a ranking tournament for the national rankings mandated by the Unified Scrabble Association of the Philippines (USAFI).

The highest national ranked players will get to represent the Philippines in upcoming international competitions like the 2016 Asian English Olympics that includes scrabble competition on Feb. 16 to 20 in Indonesia.
