ALL IS READY for the Cebu City Marathon 2016 slated tomorrow starting at the Cebu IT Park in Lahug, Cebu City.
Organizer John Pages said the race may draw more than 7,000 runners. They will be competing either in the 42-kilometer full marathon, 21k half marathon, 10k and 5k distances.
In an interview yesterday at the Cebu City Mayor’s office, Pages said participants will surely enjoy the running event this year.
“This is the only time you can run in the tunnel of SRP and you will be seeing Cebu’s famous heritage sites and get electrified by the beat of the Sinulog festival,” Pages said.
Pages was joined by Cebu City Acting Mayor Edgar Labella, suspended City Mayor Michael Rama and co-organizer Joel Garganera in an informal press conference yesterday.
Pages said they can’t come up with the total number of runners yet since they are still accepting late entrees until race day.
The race kicks off at 3 a.m. for the 42k distance runners.
With regards to weather, Pages said that there is an expected rain early in the morning but it may be still be favorable for some runners.
“Some runners would appreciate a little bit of drizzle compared to having a very hot sunny weather,” Pages said.
Aside from passing through the SRP tunnerl, the route will also bring runners to the oldest street in the country, which is Colon Street, the famous Magellan’s Cross, Basilica Minore Del Santo Niño, Plaza Independencia and Fuente Osmeña.
Meanwhile, Pages reminded runners, especially those who will join the 42k and 21k distances, of their cut-off time. Seven hours is the cut off time for the 42k while the 21k will have a cut-off time of four hours.
Unlike the previous years, the starting and finish area of the race will be moved to the garden block of Cebu IT Park since the previous starting point is now a construction area.
