WEAR light-colored and comfortable clothes. Bring hats, umbrellas and bottles of water, too.

Weather specialists said it will be a hot and humid weekend, with above normal temperatures because of the El Niño phenomenon.

Expect temperature of 31 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

The sea  will be calm for today’s fluvial parade down Mactan Channel as well, said Alfredo Quiblat Jr., chief of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (Pagasa) Mactan station.

“This January 2016, we have above normal temperature. Based on records from 1985 to 2015, maximum temperature for January was 29.7 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was 24 degrees Celsius,” Quiblat said.

From January 1-15 this year, temperature ranged from 25.2 degrees to  30.9 degrees Celsius.

“That 1-degree difference is already hot.”

Pagasa-Mactan has forecast a dry spell from January to February this year, or 21 to 60 percent reduction of rain and a drought from February to May.

So far, no major  weather disturbance has been monitored within and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility .
