THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers kept to their winning ways as they edged the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the 1st Capt. Raul Cabanero Inter-Collegiate Basketball League on Wednesday night at the Bulacao Sports Complex in Talisay City.
Returning forward Monic Soliva led the Cesafi runners-up with 16 hard-earned points even as the so-called “Flying Carpet” Rey Suerte added 14 of his own. Former Philippine Youth Team member Leonard Santillan scored 10 to round out the double-digit scorers for UV.
The win hiked the Green Lancers’ win-loss record in this competition to 2-0 while USJ-R fell in their league debut.
Former Cesafi Mythical Five member Kevin Villafranca topped the Jaguars in scoring with 19.
In the Inter-Sitio competition, San Vicente clobbered Upper Kabanayan, 75-61.
The tournament is made possible through the efforts of Bulacao barangay captain Raul Cabanero along with councilors Banjo Abastillas, Darwin Cabanero and Agnes Lastimosa. The league is also being backed by the Bulacao barangay council and the Sangguniang Kabataan task force.
