The Visayan Electric Company (VECO) turned over on Friday the upgraded electrical wiring system of Carbon Market Unit 1 to Cebu City Hall officials.

The power utility started changing the old and substandard electrical wires in Unit I in Cebu City’s biggest public market in November.

The project cost was P386,540.

Veco also donated 42 high bay lights and 46 CFL bulbs.

The ceremonial switching on of the electrical system was attended by acting Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella and City Markets Administrator Raquel Arce and VECO engineers Valentin Saludes III and Eric Ching.

In a speech, Saludes asked the market vendors to help maintain the new system by reporting defects and illegal wire tapping.

Labella said the project will be of big help to both market vendors and market buyers.

“This will lighten up the entire Carbon Market Unit 1 and help deter criminality,” he said.
