Miss Universe also hints at entering Philippine politics

Manila — The reigning Miss Universe has her eyes set on her next big dream: being a Bond girl.

Asked about her plans after her reign, Wurtzbach said she would consider possible job offers in the United States, adding: “I might be the next Bond girl, who knows? So, we’ll see, that’s the next dream.”

Wurtzbach also wants to join politics, according to Senate President Franklin Drilon yesterday.

Wurtzbach paid a courtesy call at the Senate yesterday to receive a copy of the resolution, congratulating and commending her for her victory.

“She intimated to me that she wants to join politics,” the Senate leader said at a press conference.

“You know given her politically conscious responses to the questions, I’m not surprised. The questions are very political, the presence of the American troops, the matter of the HIV, the matter of her views on a number of political issues,” he said.

Drilon was referring to Wurtzbach’s answer during the Miss Universe 2015 pageant last December where she was asked about her view on the reestablishment of US military bases in the Philippines. Wurtzbach said, she had no problem with it, noting the two countries’ strong ties.

But instead of encouraging her to join the “very nasty business of politics,” the Senate leader said he advised the newly-crowned Miss Universe to first try an appointive government post, where she could push her advocacies.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people, mostly workers and students, filled the streets of Makati City yesterday afternoon to witness the grand parade of Wurtzbach.

As early as 3 p.m., the stretch of Buendia and Ayala Avenue in the city were already full of fans and spectators who patiently waited for the float of Wurtzbach which first circled Pasay City and Manila.

The entire northbound lane of Ayala Avenue was closed to vehicular traffic starting 3 p.m. and motorists were rerouted to Buendia Avenue.

Prior to her Makati parade, some members of the fans club “Pianatics” waiting near the Makati Fire Station reenacted the Miss Universe 2015 mixup where pageant host Steve Harvey wrongfully announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner. The fans’ parody of the pageant announcement ended with a loud applause from people gathered along Ayala Avenue Extension.

Pianatics member Amante Amante, who wore a crown similar to Pia’s and played her role in the reenactment, told members of the media that he has been a fan of the beauty queen since 2013.
