A total of 59 livelihood associations in Cebu and Negros Oriental received financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD).

More than P24 million were released to the associations.

“We hope that with this assistance you could now start your own business and eventually improve your livelihood,” DSWD Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat said during the ceremonial turnover of checks held recently at the Social Hall of Cebu City Hall.

In Cebu City, each of the beneficiaries received P10,000, which has to be paid in two years.

Aside from Cebu City, the DSWD also turned over checks to groups from Bantayan, Tuburan, Pinamungajan, Badian and San Fernando towns and Carcar City.

Associations in Zamboanguita and Siaton towns in Negros Oriental were also given aid. The cities of Bayawan, Canlaon, Tanjay and the town of Pamplona were also given financial aid for livelihood training and the acquisition of common facilities for their training and production.

The program is under the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program-Bottom-Up Budgeting (SLP-BUB) approach.
