THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Dumaguete City joined the Diocesan Electoral Board (DEB) in encouraging the youths to get involved in the upcoming May 2016 national and local elections by taking an active role in voter’s education and not to sell their votes.

DEB representative Engr. Fred Magallano said the board, a non-partisan citizen’s action group, has been setting up approaches in helping prepare young people in the selection of leaders that have integrity, competence, and dedication.

With the ‘One Good Vote’ program, Magallano said this campaign may focus on voting with a conscience that young people may reject vote buying.

Magallano said DEB is looking for youth volunteers as partners in the massive voters’ education and raise the level of the electorates to achieve a clean, honest, accurate, meaningful and peaceful polls.

According to Dumaguete City Comelec Registrar Gildu Agoncillo, the youth sector is a potent force in the coming elections as they compose 75 percent of voting population in the city as well as in the province.

“Please vote wisely, your future are in your hands and worthy politician-leaders will find work for you,” Agoncillo urged the youths in a recent Kapihan forum.
