THE reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) champions University of San Carlos Warriors beat the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars by the skin of their teeth, 61-59, in the 1st Raul Cabanero Inter-Collegiate Basketball League on Friday night at the Bulacao Sports Complex in Talisay City.

Veteran wingman Ian Ortega carried the Warriors’ offense on his shoulders as he tallied a game-high 29 points. Lefty big man William Mcaloney, and Cesafi Mythical Five members Charles Pepito and Victor Rabat combined for 22 to help USC tie their victims in the standings with identical 3-2 win-loss records.

Another Cesafi Mythical Five award-winner, RJ Dinolan, paced USJ-R with 15 markers while high-leaping guard Miguel Gastador added 10.

In the first game, the University of the Visayas Green Lancers bested the visiting Colegio de Sta. Ana from Bacolod City, 87-67. Jerome Napao had 15 points while promising big man Jayson Balabag and former RP Youth Team member Leonard Santillan had 14 each.
