THE LITE Shipping-backed 2001 Dos Mil Uno repeated their feat and emerged as  champions in Division 2 of the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference as they repulsed the hard-fighting 2000 Millennium, 85-77, in Game 2 to sweep the best-of-three finals of the Sinulog Cup last weekend at the USC North Campus gym.

Man-mountain AJ San Juan, last year’s MVP in this division, scored 28 points and sparked Batch 2001’s breakaway in the fourth period.

Feisty forward Charles Parrotina chipped in 19, sweet-shooting lefty Carlo Campos had 13 while Alvin Haban chimed in with a dozen to round off Dos Mil Uno’s top performers.

Batch 2001 though had to earn the victory behind a sizzling start to the fourth period. Up 60-59 heading to the final 10 minutes of action, Campos and Conrad Plando kicked things off with consecutive baskets and was followed by a putback by San Juan, a hard-driving lay-up by Parrotina and a coast-to-coast bucket by San Juan to raise their lead to nine, 70-61.

The Millennium was still within striking distance, 77-81, after five quick points from Lex Lauron and two free throws from Ali Caballo, time down to 1:02.

But Haban and Parrotina knocked the wind out of Batch 2000’s sails with baskets from Haban and Parrotina that sealed the win and the crown for Dos Mil Uno.

Andy Eyao paced the Millennium with 25 markers while Caballo and Paul Alvarez added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

2001’s Campos and San Juan, 2000’s Lauron were named to the Division 2 Mythical Five along with Sipat ‘98s Cromwell Po and Michael Alcarde of the 1999ers.
