THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) Cebu province will hold mock polls today (Saturday) to test the new voting system to be used on the  May 9 elections.

Lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano, provincial election supervisor, said that four new vote-counting machines (VCMs) will be used in today’s mock polls.

“We would test the machine and transmission in order to determine problems so that we may address it as early as now,” he said in a phone interview.

The four VCMs will be distributed to four areas identified by the Comelec, which are  the Mabolo Elementary School and Lusaran Elementary School in Cebu City and the Santander Elementary School and Kabutungan Barangay Hall, both in Santander town, southern Cebu.

The voting will start at 7 a.m. and will run until noon. It will be followed by the transmission, printing of results, and the manual audit. At least 400 pre-selected voters will participate in the mock polls.
