Suspect in the ambush of Lapu-Lapu City cop killed in shootout

The suspect in the killing of a Lapu-Lapu City policemen and the wounding of another was killed in a shootout with police on Sunday dawn.

Joel Oyao Amistad, 43, was was already dead when brought to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital while his son, Ken, 18, was arrested for drug possession and is now detained.

Amistad, a member of the Oyao drug group, is said to be responsible for the killing of P03 Antonio Inihao, Jr. and the wounding of PO3 Jasper Nuñez on Saturday.

Police visited Amistad’s residence in Barangay Agus about 3:50 a.m. on Sunday to serve a warrant for his arrest.

He was jailed in December 2015 for a drug case but is out on bail.

Marigondon Police chief Alcon Escusara said Amistad fired at the police team and was killed during the exchange of gunfire.

The police team consisting of personnel from the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) and the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station recovered a .357 revolver with two fired cartridge and three live bullets from Amistad.

Police also arrested Ken for possession of one medium pack and 42 small packs of shabu and drug paraphernalia.
