The powerhouse Team Cebu City continued to display their mastery in the last day of the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Regional Meet yesterday in various venues around the city.

With victories in basketball, beach volley and remaining events in athletics yesterday, the Cebuano athletes completed their dominance in the meet and will now make up most of the Prisaa 7 roster to the upcoming Prisaa National Meet slated April 3 to 10 in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

Team Cebu City’s basketball team,  represented by the University of San Carlos (USC), proved its worth after outlasting the Bohol Selection Team in their do-or-die matchup, 84-75, at the USC-Main Gym.

It wasn’t actually an easy game for the Cebuanos as they led by just three in the last six minutes. But the Warriors kept their composure after a series of fouls by the Boholanos in the dying seconds to come away with the victory.

Despite the loss, the Bohol team gave USC quite a scare as it actually took Game 1 of their best-of-three series last Saturday, 83-82. USC bounced back with authority in Game 2, 89-61, to force the deciding match.

In beach volleyball, Southwestern University (SWU) posted convincing wins over Bohol to pocket the men’s and women’s titles at the Aznar Sand Courts.

The Lady Cobras dominated in both ends of the floor by rolling past Bohol, 21-8, 21-8, in their first game then kept their pedal to metal in the second game  for a 21-9, 21-5 victory.

In men’s play, SWU had a tougher time against Bohol but still escaped  with a 21-18, 13-21, 15-10 triumph. In their first game, the Cobras bested the Boholano spikers, 21-17, 23-21.

The Cebuano tracksters also continued their gold medal harvest in athletics, sweeping all remaining 11 events at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) oval.

Gold winners were Lynette Ursua (100m Women), Benjamin Reynes (100m Men), Geneda Arouino (5,000m Women), Arnel Florentino (5,000m Men), Marjorie

Rañares (Javelin Throw Women), and Vergel Abella (Javelin Throw Men). Cebu also hauled golds in the Men’s and Women’s 4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay, and 10,000m Men.

Meanwhile, Cebu netters composed of Ralph Juliane, Gabriel Riconala and University of the Visayas Green Lancers (UV) siblings Marc Norman and Norman Joseph Enriquez annihilated Bohol’s Jefferson Dinoy, Sam Joseph Caballo and the tandem of Zacarias Castro and Mark Louie Castro at the Citigreen Tennis Resort last Saturday to win gold medals.

Not to be outdone were the Cebu women’s team composed of University of San Carlos (USC) ace Shyne Villareal, Kezia Jabines and the duo of Juvilyn Barquin and Claire Lazaga, who outplayed Bohol netters Trixia Aranas, Pia Ramirez and the Nicole Anore-Princess Careras tandem, 3-0.

Also last Saturday, the sepak takraw team of Cebu trounced Prisaa Bohol, 2-0, to win the gold medal at the CCSC.

But Bohol will still have outright berths to the Prisaa National Meet in the women’s baseball and women’s basketball since Cebu failed to field teams in both events.
