Rama commits P5M aid to Mandaue fire victims

By: Jose Santino S. Bunachita March 15,2016 - 02:53 PM

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wants to extend a P5 million financial assistance to the victims of the fire in Mandaue City.

“We’ve been helping out others (during Yolanda). Kana pa kaha nuong silingan (How much more our neighbors)?,” Rama told reporters Tuesday morning.

He asked the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC) to meet and deliberate on the plan as soon as possible so they can use the city’s calamity funds to extend the P5 million aid.

The financial assistance will be coursed through the Mandaue City government of Mandaue instead of using it to buy housing materials and other basic needs since Rama said there might be duplication in the materials.

Rama also asked Collin Rosell, chief of the Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP) to connect with private donors and organization and ask them for help in behalf of the victims.
