To bolster Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign, volunteers from Mindanao came to Cebu to sell T-shirts with his image on it.

The “Shirts for Duterte” movement, made up of 13 members working from Paintline Printing Services in Davao City, set up this morning a stall across University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, the venue for the second presidential debate that will start at 5 p.m. today.

“We want to help the mayor. He was reluctant when he proclaimed his presidential bid because he had no money. He had no machinery. We are his machinery,” project manager Benedict Grado told Cebu Daily News.

Grado said that their income wouldn’t be used to finance Duterte’s campaign, but will be donated for the benefit of young cancer patients in the House of Hope in Davao City.

“It was the mayor who told us to donate it instead. We want to make his name known,” he said.

The booth, manned by Grado and a companion, was set up at 8 a.m. and had sold more than 150 shirts within two hours.

It was a busy start for the volunteers, as local supporters scrambled to get their shirts.

The shirts, which come in three designs — The Punisher, The Fist, and Team Duterte — printed on black or white cloth, sell for P200 to P350.

Grado said they wanted to provided Duterte’s supporters quality shirts at an affordable price.

Paintline Printing Services has been operating for five years already, he added.

The “Shirts for Duterte” movement was launched last Nov. 5, when Duterte declared that he was running for president, and has since sold more than 21,000 shirts in Manila and all of Mindanao.

Their visit to Cebu was the first stop in the Visayas. Grado said they will also go to Tacloban City in Leyte and Bohol before heading to Luzon.

“Shirts for Duterte” will be in Cebu City until March 22 and will also set up a mobile booth along Gen. Maxilom (Mango) Avenue tomorrow, March 21.
