TO better promote his candidacy, Cebu City Council candidate and Tinago Barangay Chairman Joel Garganera published 10,000 copies of a four-page newsletter that details his life story and testimonials from supporters.

The newsletter entitled “Panday Mag” was distributed to family, friends and the media at the Cebu La Fortuna Bakery yesterday.

“You also get to know Joel Garganera, the real Joel Garganera,” he told reporters.

One of those who attended the distribution was Paul Esguerra, a victim of the 2006 Guinsaugon landslide who received a scholarship from Garganera.

The newsletter was named “Panday Mag” after the movie character “Panday” (blacksmith) played by cinematic legend Fernando Poe Jr.

Garganera’s billboards scattered across the city also portray him as the “Panday.”

According to the newsletter, the barangay official is compared to the Panday for fixing the problems in Barangay Tinago.

These newsletters will be distributed to offices, houses and commercial establishments in Cebu City’s north district.

“Using newsletters is more environmentally friendly. The last time I ran in 2010,  I had a lot of posters and I spent almost three weeks removing them,” Garganera said.

This year marks the fourth time that Garganera runs for the council in the city’s north district under Team Rama which is allied with the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

The Tinago barangay chairman ran in the 2001, 2004 and 2010 elections but failed to break into the top eight.
