Bakud assures support; Poe vows more projects
While acknowledging his clan’s strong ties with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in Danao City, Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III assured Sen. Grace Poe and her running mate Sen. Francis Escudero of voter support in the city and Cebu’s 5th district.
In an opening message during the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan (Bakud) party rally at the Danao Civic Center, Durano said the election is not about family and their decision to support Poe instead of their relative which is based on their platform.
“This election is not about family. This is not about the Duterte family. This is not about the Durano family. This is about your pledge of not leaving behind ordinary people in the quest for progress,” he said.
Mayor Nito assured Poe and Escudero that they will use their machinery in Bakud to ensure their victory since they are a solid bloc here in Cebu.
Bakud counts nine municipal mayors and one city mayor under its fold.
Only Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco is a member of the Garcia-led One Cebu party.
Poe and Escudero arrived at the Danao Civic Center at past 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
They were joined by their senatorial candidates Miguel Zubiri, Isko Moreno and Susan Ople.
In a message, Poe promised to build a new airport in Camotes Island.
“Napakaganda ng lugar, malaki ang kikitain ng local government and maibabalik sa inyo bilang serbisyo (The place is very beautiful and the local government can earn more and it can be given to you in return through benefits),” she told the crowd of at least 2,000 in Danao City.
She also promised to push more projects in Cebu including the third bridge connecting Mactan to mainland Cebu, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), water system infrastructure and a possible Metro Rail Transit (MRT) project.
Poe said she will also institutionalize feeding projects in all daycare and public schools and make free the college education of indigent youths in state colleges and universities.
Her running mate Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero promised to lobby for P300 billion funding for agriculture.
He also assured the expansion of the conditional cash program to include livelihood aid and increased salaries for barangay officials and employees.
After staying for nearly an hour in Danao City, Poe and Escudero left for Lapu-Lapu City for another rally.
