Cebuana golfer Lois Kaye Go will be going for broke in the the first MVPSF Visayas Regional Match Play Championship as she moved on to the finals with convincing victories in the quarterfinals and semifinals yesterday on her own home turf at the Cebu Country Club in Banilad.

With the local crowd energizing her, the younger sister of the equally-talented Lloyd Jefferson Go got past fellow Cebuana, Ryoko Nagai, 9-7, in the quarterfinals earlier that morning then sustaining her form and slipping past yet another local bet, Junia Gabasa, 4&3, to barge into the finals today.

In an exclusive interview with Cebu Daily News, Go said that though her game has not been up to par of late she still managed to come away with victories.

“To be honest, I haven’t been really playing well lately. I struggle a lot on the course but I was able to manage my mistakes and keep them at a minimum,” said Go.

“I feel at home and at ease when I play in my home course. I don’t feel like I have a huge advantage over the other competitors though. I believe it is more on your game like how you’re hitting, putting and playing, in general,” she added.

Waiting for Go in the finals is a formidable opponent in the reigning national stroke play champion, Harmie Constantino. She matched Go’s romp, routing Riko Nagai, 9-8, in the quarters and then blasting Angela Mangana in the semis, 5&3.
The finale is expected to go right down to the wire with Go hoping to cash in on her intimate knowledge of the tight, challenging course and Constantino banking on her experience and talent.

Over on the men’s side, Rupert Zaragosa and Rolando Pila held off their respective semifinal rivals to book slots in the finals.

Both finals are set over 36 holes with Junia Gabasa and Angela Mangana, and Jolo Magcalayo and Sarmiento disputing third place honors in their respective sides over 18 holes.
