A 38-year-old woman died after she was stabbed by her husband with a broken bottle.

Luzviminda Cuevas, a resident of Barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City who worked as a timekeeper of a construction company in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City, was rushed to the hospital after sustaining several stab wounds in the body.

The suspect was identified by police as Aprilito Cuevas, 38, jobless, with a physical disability.

Initial investigation conducted by Homicide Section led by PO3 Joseph Ruel Cutanda revealed that the couple had always been arguing due to jealousy.

The suspect believed that her wife had a paramour as she seldom went home.

Prior to the incident, Job Batoy, nephew of Aprilito, heard the couple arguing at around 5:30 a.m.

He said he saw the suspect stabbing the victim with a broken bottle, prompting him to call the police.

PO1 Leo Labis and his companions from the Mactan Police Station arrived and arrested the suspect at around 6 a.m. yesterday, while the victim was rushed by the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Luzviminda later died  at around 11 a.m.

Aprilito is currently detained at the Lapu-Lapu police detention cell.
