THE Visayas is now placed under yellow alert as preparation for the May 9 elections by the Department of Energy (DOE).

Yellow alert means the Visayas grid already has limited reserves.

Energy Secretary Zenaida Monsada said they are prioritizing the maintenance of power plants in Luzon and taking into consideration the energy demand in Visayas which peaked at 1,700 megawatts, up from the regular peak of 1,300 to 1,400 megawatts.

The highest peak demand noted for Visayas is from 5 p.m to 7 p.m.

“Despite being placed under yellow alert, we assure that there will be no power plants maintenance during the critical election period to prevent brownouts,” she told the reporters.

Monsada is now at Cebu Parklane International Hotel for the Power Task Force Election 2016 information, education and communication campaign for the May 9, 2016 election.
