V-hires to move to SM Seaside mall Thursday

THREE hundred vans-for-hire (V-hire) bound for southern Cebu will be relocated to SM Seaside City Cebu starting Thursday.

City Administrator Lucelle Mercado said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 will proceed with the road-concreting project in ML Quezon Avenue after the vans leave Compania Maritima.

“Because we will implement total closure, the DPWH can now move; they don’t have to be limited in their movement. They will be able to do their job better,” she said.

Mercado said they reminded the van-for-hire operators and drivers, who wanted to leave after the end of the summer, that they cannot stay any longer at the Compania Maritima.

“They would have wanted it after the vacation. We explained that it is better to transfer now so people will be familiar with the situation. This also serves as a practice and we can even disseminate the information,” she said. Mercado said it is more chaotic if the transfer will be done during the opening of the school year.

SM Seaside City allotted one level of their parking lot for the V-hires that will be transferred to their mall.

But before the V-hires can park at SM Seaside, drivers, owners or operators must comply with existing requirements such as securing a certificate of registration, order of receipt and verifying their licenses among others.

SM Seaside will be open for V-hires from 6 a.m. until midnight. But V-hires cannot stay overnight. Mercado said there is a vacant lot at the back of the mall near San Pedro Calungsod Chapel that V-hires can temporarily stay in.
