AT least 15 candidates running for governor and provincial board member signed a covenant to peaceful and orderly elections on May 9.

The covenant signing organized by the Cebu Provincial Police Office and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) was held at their headquarters in Sitio Sudlon, Barangay Lahug in Cebu City Friday morning.

Those who signed the covenant were reelectionist Cebu Gov. HIlario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, One Cebu vice gubernatorial bet Nerissa-Soon Ruiz and independent gubernatorial aspirant Nito Magnanao.

Also present were reelectionist Rep. Gerald Anthony Gullas of Cebu’s 1st district, San Fernando Mayor Antonio Canoy, Provincial Board Member Grecilda Sanchez-Zaballero, Bogo City Mayor Junie Martinez, congressional candidate Paul Canete and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and former congressman Pablo John Garcia, who’s running for Cebu’s 7th district.

Regional Commission on Elections Director Jose Nick Mendros said the signing was symbolic and it is up to the candidates to abide by their commitment.

Senior Supt. Clifford Gairanod, Cebu provincial police chief, said they will remain apolitical and neutral in securing the polling precincts on Election Day.
