A 37-year-old woman was arrested yesterday after she tried to con a 73-year-old widow of her valuables using the bodol-bodol method in Barangay Balod, Dalaguete town in southern Cebu.
PO3 Reynaldo Vidas, Dalaguete police station desk officer, said Myra Cabrera, 37, was caught after she was chased by people when they learned of her trying to con the widow, Estrella Bustamante of Barangay Balod.
Vidas said that Cabrera, who is from Barangay Sambag, Cebu City, attended a “tabo” in the area and there she met Bustamante, whom Estrella tried to win over by telling her that she knew some of her relatives.
Vidas said eventually, the talk led to Cabrera sweet talking Bustamante to give her earrings worth P5000 and a necklace with a pendant worth P15,000 after she showed her a thick wad of money which were basically a bundle of cut pieces of paper.
But before Cabrera could leave, Bustamante realized that she was being conned and she shouted for help.
People chased Cabrera and caught her. She was turned over to the Dalaguete police station where she was detained.
