Lapu supporter gripes over insurance card mess

By: Norman V. Mendoza May 02,2016 - 10:32 PM

A SUPPORTER of Lapu-Lapu City mayoral candidate Rolando Patalinjug was dismayed after learning that the insurance card he gave her was invalidated by a hospital she was admitted to for treatment.

Evilita Berido, a resident of Sitio Masiwa in Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City, said she presented the insurance card given by Patalinjug at the Perpetual Succor Hospital in Cebu City where she was treated for a fractured shoulder.

But she said the hospital staff told her that she wasn’t recorded by the insurer Fortune Life Insurance Co. despite being supposedly told by Patalinjug’s staff that the card carries a P50,000 insurance.

Patalinjug, who’s running under PDP-Laban, said he couldn’t recall if he had a campaign leader named Evilita Berido in his Team Kusgano.

He said the insurance cards they gave to supporters and volunteers need to be approved by him first before it can be registered to the insurer.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, who said she plans to file a complaint against Patalinjug, said the issuance of insurance cards is a form of vote-buying.
