Devotees of the Sto. Niño will be filling the streets on Saturday for the solemn foot procession in Cebu City.

Starting 10 a.m., vehicles will not be allowed to enter the roads to be used for the procession. Jeepneys will be rerouted.

Cars parked along the route will be towed away.

Devotees who want to join the foot procession, which kicks off at 1 p.m. at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño on A. Borromeo Street should keep in mind that tens of thousands of people will be there as well.

Free parking space for private vehicles is available at the SRP near the Pedro Calungod Templete.

When the religious procession ends about 6 p.m., with the return of the Sto. Niño carroza to the basilica, heavy crowds going home will tie up traffic till almost 10 p.m., based on past experience.

GOING HOME: After the procession, north-bound jeepneys will wait for passengers on Palma Street near Cebu Technological University. South-bound jeepneys will park in front of Bible Baptist Church in Katipunan Street.

Road clearing operations by the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom), police and City Hall will resume at 10 p.m.

This time the work is in preparation for Sunday’s Sinulog grand parade the next morning.

Citom enforcers will go around asking motorists to leave. By midnight, they will start towing off parked vehicles.

The aim is to clear the route of obstructions by 3 a.m. or several hours before the parade kicks off at 9 a.m. said Joy Tumulak, operations head for Citom at the 888 News Forum.

Total closure of streets along the parade route will be enforced at 5 a.m. Sunday.

A typical problem is clearing cars parked along Fuente Osmeña, he said. Some car owners leave their vehicles hoping to use it as platforms to watch the parade.

Stalls and other obstructions will be removed. Iron railings will be used to block affected roads.Only ambulances and other emergency vehicles can pass through.

Roads will be open again on Sunday at 8 p.m.

GOING HOME

On Sunday, north-bound jeepneys will wait for passengers at M.J. Cuenco Avenue in front of Museo Sugbo.

South-bound jeepneys will be at corner V. Rama-N. Bacalso Avenue.
