The Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO-7) election-related incident validation committee will meet today to discuss the recent Dumanjug town shooting incident.

Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, PRO-7 deputy regional director for operations, in an interview Thursday afternoon said that the committee will meet to discuss whether the shooting incident in Dumanjug town western Cebu last Sunday was election related and which cases will the police file.

The committee which composed of officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will hear accounts from resource speakers including Insp. Rogelio Amoroso, the recently relieved Dumanjug police chief.

Lawas also said that they were still waiting for the final reports about the investigation of both the Dumanjug Police Station and the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

He also assured that cases will be filed once the investigation will be completed.

“There has to be somebody arrested, and there has to be evidence that can be presented. In the absence of that one, I think the investigator has a lot of things to do as far as talking about filing of charges in violation of the Comelec gun ban,” said Lawas.

Last May 8, Sunday, supporters of Dumanjug’s newly-elected Mayor Efren “Gungun” Gica and outgoing mayor Nelson Garcia were involved in a shooting incident a few meters away from the Garcias’ ancestral home in Barangay Ylaya. Dumanjug.

According to reports two unidentified men riding separate motorcycles allegedly fired shots at Ely Amadora, a member of One Cebu party of the Garcias, and Amadora’s companion, who were both heading toward the Garcias’ ancestral house.

The report said that Marlon Ybañez, Gica’s supporter who was outside Garcia’s residence to check on an alleged vote-buying incident in the area, blocked the two motorcycles with his Toyota Revo.

The report showed that someone then went out of the Toyota Revo and shot at the two motorcycle drivers. It also showed armed men inside Garcia’s house firing shots at the Revo.

Ybañez was wounded in the stomach allegedly during the shooting.

Lawas said that they will find out what really happened in that incident in today’s committee meeting.
