SUPPORTERS of leading vice-presidential contender Leni Robredo want Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos to concede as they held a rally in front of the Cebu Provincial Capitol yesterday.
The Anti-Bongbong Coalition (ABC) which organized the rally also called for the continuation of the unofficial count of the the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV)
“This is a democracy. We want it to continue because this is what we call transparency,” said ABC spokesperson Noel Tabasa said.
Around a hundred Robredo supporters, most of them in yellow came from the marginalized sectors of the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.
“The purpose of this event is for us to pray that Leni will have more strength to carry on and at the same time, tell Bongbong not to bully the PPCRV and Comelec,” Tabasa told reporters.
Marcos earlier asked PPCRV to stop its parallel count, saying this would create confusion with results from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Marcos had also hit the Comelec for technical changes in the hash code of the Consolidation and Canvassing System (CCS).
Tabasa said that casting aspersions on the partial results of the vice-presidential race is tantamount to questioning the legitimacy of the whole electoral process.
“This is not good. We do not want Bongbong to do that. This is no longer Martial Law, no longer his time, his father’s time or the Marcoses’ time,” said Tabasa.
Instead of casting doubts on what the Comelec and PPCRV are doing, Tabasa said Marcos should just concede.
Senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Alan Peter Cayetano and Gringo Honasan have conceded their loss in the vice-presidential race.
Based on partial and unofficial results posted on GMA News Online (Comelec mirror server), Robredo is leading with 14,015,747 votes as compared to
Marcos with 13,799,566 votes, a difference of 216,181 votes, as of 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
The data is based on 96.06 percent of the total canvassed poll results nationwide.
Rallyists held placards that read “Vote Leni for Vice President,” “Never Forget,” “Never Again,” “Just Concede,” and “Bongbong concede.”
Members of Volunteers for Roxas and Robredo, Akbayan Youth, Cordova fisherfolk and supporters of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte also attended the rally.
