AROUND 900 athletes from 23 different towns will put their skills to the test as they compete in the first annual Cebu Provincial Summer Games 2016 today at the Mayor Esperanza Binghay Memorial Complex in Balamban town, western Cebu.

The newly discovered talents of Cebu Province are set to battle it out in different sports disciplines such as basketball, volleyball, athletics, arnis, boxing, futsal, chess, sepak takraw and tennis.

The three-day competition will serve as a scouting ground for potential talents who may be able to represent the province in different regional and national competitions in the future.

Competition in other sporting events already started earlier this week. Jins from Danao wound up as champions in taekwondo while Compostela and Tuburan topped the softball and baseball events, respectively.

Cebu Provincial Sports Commission Executive Director Ramil Abing said that athletes should expect hotly contested battles since this is the maiden year of the Summer Games.
