A dog’s bark led a midwife from Daanbantayan town in northern Cebu to locate a newborn baby who was placed inside a sando bag and dumped near banana plants located close to her home.
The baby boy showed signs of infection and was given dextrose and antibiotics after he was brought to the Daanbantayan District Hospital.
Capitol Information Officer Ethel Natera said that baby was transferred to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City on Thursday for further check up.
Daanbantayan Mayor Augusto Corro said he has ordered the municipal social welfare office and the police to conduct an investigation to identify the baby’s mother.
He said the municipal government will also be extending financial assistance to take care of the baby’s medical bills.
Corro added that once the baby recovers and is released from the hospital, he will have him turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Visayas.
