BACOLOD CITY—After a bizarre ending to their co-main event bout in the Pinoy Pride 36: A Legend In the Making, expect “King” Arthur Villanueva and Mexican Juan “El Penita” Jimenez to fight again soon.
ALA Promotions International chief Michael Aldeguer said he is open to give Jimenez an immediate rematch after losing to Villanueva via knockout last Saturday at the St. L Salle University Stadium.
“You got to give credit to both Jimenez and Villanueva. Nobody expected that to happen,” Aldeguer said.
The WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight championship fight was action-packed in the first three rounds until an accidental collision of heads happened in the fourth. The impact sent Jimenez down and referee Dan Nietes counted him out to give Villanueva the victory, something that many didn’t agree with.
“An immediate rematch I think is great for these two boxers,” Aldeguer said.
Villanueva, the former IBF super-flyweight contender logged his 29th win (15 knockouts) against a single loss.
Meanwhile, an overweight Milan “El Metodico” Melindo won over his replacement opponent Maximino Flores of Mexico via technical decision in the seventh round. The bout was stopped after Melindo suffered a deep cut near his left eye.
The scores after the bout was stopped at the seventh round were 69-64 68-65 and 67-66 all in favor of Melindo.
Cebuano Kevin Jake Cataraja scored a fourth-round TKO against Thai Chatchai Or Benjamas while his stablemate Jonas Sultan successfully defended his Philippine Super-flyweight title versus Rommel Oliveros by a fifth round knockout.
Raul Yu defeated Robert Ates of Bacolod City by a second-round TKO victory while Kenneth Gentallan escaped the awkward style of Lenmar Prescillas after six rounds by decision. In the curtain raiser, Reymund Rama staged an upset after beating ALA Boxing Gym’s Gerard Suico by split decision.
