THOSE who would want to pay their final respects to slain notorious drug lord Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz in Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City would need to pass through a group of armed policemen in combat gear who are now securing the area around his residence.

About 18 policemen in uniform, composed of two teams, were deployed yesterday morning to the barangay and would be taking turns in guarding the perimeters of the high-walled Diaz compound, where the Jaguar’s remains lie in state.

Jaguar’s remains were quietly brought back to Cebu City by his relatives on Monday, four days after he was killed in an encounter with the police in Las Piñas City on June 17 along with his bodyguard, Paul Vincent Gloria.

P02 Rusthy Bolotaulo told Cebu Daily News that there were 16 of them at the Central Visayas Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB 7) who were deployed by the Regional Police Office to guard the area surrounding Jaguar’s compound. Two policemen from Cebu City Police Station 11 based in Barangay Mambaling would serve as their team leaders, he said.

He said his team, which arrived in the barangay at around 7 a.m. yesterday, decided to stay about 10 meters away from the house of Jaguar as they would not want to disturb a family in mourning.

“Wala lang gyud mi nagpaduol og maayo para usab naay privacy ang pamilya. Ang amo usab pagbantay ra sa palibot (We decided against getting to close since we want to respect the privacy of the family. We only want to secure the surrounding),” he said.

According to Bolotaulo, they would be guarding the area round-the-clock, working on two shifts. Each shift would be manned by a team composed of eight men from RPSB 7 and a team leader from the Mambaling Police Station.
Residents, meanwhile, declined to comment on the presence of the policemen in their village.

Cebu Daily News tried to ask the barangay officials and tanods (village watchmen) as to when will be the burial of Jaguar, but they declined to be interviewed, saying they have no contact with the members of Jaguar’s family.

But one resident who refused to be named said the burial might be held this Sunday at a still unspecified cemetery.
