Outgoing Cebu City Councilor Nida Cabrera confirmed that the Inayawan sanitary landfill will be reopened anytime this week.
She said the Cebu City government complied with requirements set by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) to reopen the Inayawan Sanitary landfill.
Cabrera and Cebu City acting Mayor Margot Osmeña met with EMB-7 Regional Director William Cuñado to discuss the requirements for reopening the landfill last June 20.
The requirements include a site development plan which details the use of the landfill, a Multipartite Monitoring Team (MMT) to monitor the city’s compliance and management of the landfill and a P5 million Environmental Guaranteed Fund (EGF) to address the needs of residents to be affected by the landfill’s reopening.
Cabrera showed to the media the masterplan for the Inayawan landfill. She said Tuesday marks the last day the city transports its garbage to the Consolacion private landfill facility.
