KAPUSO star Jennylyn Mercado, who just signed a new contract with GMA-7, is now receiving negative comments, even death threats on Twitter after speculations suggest that she will play the role of Steffi in the Filipino adaptation of the Koreanovela “My Love from the Stars” (MLFTS).
Most of these threats allegedly come from fans of the phenomenal loveteam AlDub (Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza) who vented out their rage on social media.
In an earlier pep.news article, Alden was identified as the lead actor in the Pinoy adaptation of the series which will be directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal.
As fans clamor that Alden be paired with Maine in a teleserye, rumors surfaced that since Jennylyn has renewed her contract with her home network she will be the series’ female lead.
Jennylyn has neither confirmed nor denied the reports, saying “Pwedeng ako. Pwedeng hindi.” in previous interviews about MLFTS.
On Twitter, some fans insist that Alden should only be paired with Maine, especially with their upcoming first solo movie “Imagine You and Me” hitting cinemas on July 13.
Helmed by director Michael Tuviera, the film will be the Kalyeserye darlings’ anniversary offering to their fans. AlDub will celebrate the first anniversary on July 16.
A Bandera news article stated that some fans are threatening to boycott the network if the Alden-Jennylyn tandem would push through.
In a tweet by a certain Showbiz Outsider, it echoed the Aldub fans clamor that if GMA announces that Jennylyn will be Steffi and Alden as Matteo, it will negatively affect the AlDub film.
Some speculate that if it were true that Jennylyn will fill in the role as Steffi, Alden might refuse the role as Matteo. In the press conference for “Imagine You and Me” in Manila, the actor said that he and Maine are not looking forward to be paired with anyone else.
GMA Network has yet to release a statement on the issue.
