Capitol eyes skills training centers for surrenderees

July 08,2016 - 12:28 PM

The Cebu Provincial government is looking at offering short vocational courses for the drug personalities who surrendered as a possible means to help them renew their lives.

The project will be in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) who will provide the training.

Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Orvi Ortega said the plan is to build skills training centers in each of the congressional districts in the province.

The training centers can offer short courses including dressmaking, cosmetology, manicure, hairdressing for women, wielding, haircut, and electrical
for men and more.

Ortega said that each of the surrenderees can choose which courses to take.

“Or we could also determine the appropriate projects for each district. Let us say for example, in Moalboal, since the tourism industry is booming, we could initiate some classes on massage training,” he said.

The provincial government believes that providing them the training could help open opportunities for them to work here and abroad and thus earn a decent living for their families.

The capitol is yet to come up with the costing and define which local government units they will be setting up the centers./UP Cebu Intern Maurice Jitty Villaester
