Enforcer gets P5,000 for apprehending Mayor Luigi’s cousin
MANDAUE City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing yesterday kept his promise to give a reward to any traffic enforcer who would apprehend any of his relatives for violating traffic rules in the city.
In his bid to make the city a traffic discipline zone, Quisumbing challenged Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) members early this month to arrest any of his relatives violating traffic rules, and he would even give them a reward.
Yesterday, Quisumbing recognized traffic enforcer David John Catinoy, 30, for apprehending Quisumbing’s cousin last Saturday when he disregarded a no-left-turn sign in A. Del Rosario Street in Barangay Guizo.
Catinoy, a nine-year TEAM rider and a Barangay Maguikay resident, said he did not know that the person he apprehended at that time was the mayor’s cousin.
“I only followed the directive of the mayor to apprehend traffic violators, especially that we want the city to be a traffic discipline zone,” said Catinoy in Cebuano.
He only learned later that it was the mayor’s cousin when the mayor informed Team chief of operations Glenn Antigua about it.
Catinoy received a P5,000 cash reward from the mayor, which was given to him during yesterday’s press briefing.
“I was surprised when they called my attention. I will treat my colleagues because all of us all did our part,” said Catinoy in Cebuano.
Quisumbing said that it was his cousin who told him about the incident and that his cousin even praised Catinoy for his professionalism and courteousness in handling the apprehension.
