A HELP desk that will address the complaints of the lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) community will soon be set up at Cebu City Hall.
Cebu City Councilor Margot Osmeña made the assurance in yesterday’s meeting with Cebu’s LGBTIQ community at City Hall.
The councilor said the city’s anti-discrimination ordinance called for the creation of an anti-discrimination commission.
“I cannot promise everything but we can start,” said Osmeña, who’s also appointed deputy mayor for social services by her husband, Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
Magdalena Robinson, chairperson of the Cebu United Rainbow LGBTIQ Sector (CURLS), said a help desk can help them address their concerns on harassment.
Former Cebu City councilor Alvin Dizon, who authored the ordinance, said they plan to include the institution of the help desk for next year’s annual budget.
Osmeña said they plan to fund the help desk in the city’s budget for gender and development programs./UP Cebu Intern Maurice Jitty M. Villaester
