TEAM Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Karate-do Cebu will host the 2nd Mayor Joel Quiño Regional Open Karate-do Championships on Aug. 6 at the Compostela Gymnasium in Compostela town, north Cebu.
The host team last year harvested 18 gold medals along with six silver and three bronze medals while Cosca Karatedo Team of Dumaguete City finished second with a 11-8-3 harvest.
One of the tournament directors, Reynante Vidal, who is also the head coach of Team Hayashi-ha Shitoryukai Karate-do Cebu, said they are expecting more participants and teams to join this year as there was an increase in membership in the newly formed Visayas Karate Union (VKU).
The tournament will feature the kata and kumite competitions that will have various weight categories.
The tournament is organized by the municipality of Compostela headed by re-elected mayor Joel Quiño.
