THE new police chiefs of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities have assumed their posts and started familiarizing themselves with their respective areas of jurisdiction and meeting police station commanders under their supervision.

Both said they will maintain the current programs of the police such as the Oplan Tokhang, and intensified operations against crime and illegal drugs.

Newly appointed Lapu-Lapu Police Director, Senior Supt. Romel Cabagnot met personnel of the Lapu-Lapu police headquarters and the station commanders under his command. He also said he will visit Olango Island where Station 1 is located.

He has not yet paid a courtesy call on Mayor Paz Radaza, although the latter had earlier said she has no problem with working with a new police chief, “for as long as they can deliver their duties and maintain peace and order, they will have our support, whether financial, mobility or equipment for police operations.”

Cabagnot, for his part, said he will continue the current programs of the police against drugs and criminality.

“Kung dunay mga additional instructions ang PRO-7 especially nga moanhi karong Monday ang atong PNP Chief, then we will implement it (If there’s additional instructions from PRO-7 especially that the PNP Chief will be here on Monday, then we will implement it),” Cabagnot said.

In Mandaue City, Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas got to know his men and the station commanders under him.

Mayor Luigi Quisumbing said he understood the police revamp and expressed support for his newly appointed chief of police, even if he had no hand in choosing him.
