THE regional Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB) said it will investigate a bus accident in barangay Pit-os in Cebu City that injured six of 27 passengers last Sunday morning.

LTFRB regional director Ahmed Cuizon said he already directed Lemuel Banday, operator of the East Visayan Academy school bus to explain why his franchise should not be suspended or revoked.

Cuizon said they scheduled a July 25 hearing with Banday. “We are (also) coordinating with the concerned insurance company to expedite assistance to the accident victims,” Cuizon said.

During the hearing, Cuizon said they will review documents issued on the operation of Banday’s bus. They would also look into the drug test results of bus driver Eduard Cagas.

Cuizon said Banday’s bus was issued a franchise that is valid until October 2020.

LTFRB Board Member Ariel Inton said he was told by LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra III to investigate the Sunday morning accident.

“As we can all see based on the pictures that the service used was a school bus while the passengers were retirees. Did the operator secure a special permit for this trip?,” Inton said.

Inton said they will have to check if the bus was colorum of not. Cagas earlier said that he lost control of the vehicle while climbing uphill in Barangay Pit-os causing the bus to fall on one side.

At least six of his 27 passengers consisting of senior citizens and retired teachers were injured during the accident.
