Ten people were hurt when a jeep fell off a cliff in barangay Lugo, Borbon town in northern Cebu at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 31.

Six of the victims are in critical condition after suffering injuries to the head and bone fractures when the jeep’s brake malfunctioned as the driver was avoiding an approaching vehicle at a blind curve in sitio Mahayahay.

They were on their way to a cockfight when the accident happened. The driver, 30-year-old Julani Baguio, told the police that he swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle from the other direction. The brake failed, so they fell down the cliff.

PO1 John Paul Armero told Cebu Daily News that the vehicle was overloaded. He could not believe all 10 people were able to fit in the small vehicle.

Taken to the Juan Dosado Memorial Medical Center were Gerlon Booc, 23; Raniel Booc, 25; William Arnol, 40; Arnel Booc, 18; Fely Booc, 44; Freddie Feliano, 31; all residents of barangay Clavera. The other victims were Wenceslao Armero, 66; Selvirio Grananola, 23 and Hilario Mabawag of barangay Poblacion.

Six of them were transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center because of severe injuries.

Baguio couldn’t present his driver’s license or the vehicle’s registration, saying he lost his wallet during the accident. He could only name the vehicle’s owner as a certain “Roy.”
