MORE than 80,000 youths in Cebu registered for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and barangay elections in October this year.

As of yesterday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Cebu province said there were 80,717 youths between 15 to 17 years old who trooped to their office to register during the registration period from July 15 to 30.

Another 46,645 new voters also aged 18 years old and above registered during the same period for the barangay elections, Comelec Provincial Election Assistant II Ronnie Amistoso said.

He said there is still no directive from the Comelec central office on a possible extension of the voter’s registration as of yesterday.

But these numbers are still expected to increase, Amistoso said, since there are still 11 local government units (LGUs) who haven’t transmitted their data to the Comelec province.

He said these remaining LGUs should be able to already transmit their data by today.
