One of strafing suspects identified, now under surveillance

One of the two men who strafed the police station in Danao City, northern Cebu on Friday morning, worked for alleged drug lord, Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro, the police said.

Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, Danao police chief, said the suspect, whom he did not identify, was placed under surveillance due to his links to Alvaro, the right hand man of Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz, dubbed as the biggest drug lord in Central Visayas.

Batobalonos said they were able to recognize the gunman since the gunman and the motorcycle driver didn’t wear any helmet.

Alvaro has been detained at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Cebu City since June when he surrendered after Diaz was killed by police in Las Piñas City in June.

The gunman was on board a black XRM motorcycle driven by a companion at 2:25 a.m. on Friday.

He got off about 15 meters from the police station and fired on the building’s second floor where at least 21 empty shells of 9mm were later recovered.

No one was hurt but the bullets shattered the jalousie windows and riddled the wall.
