SOLVING our environmental issues is not easy, but there is a solution. Reaching out to those who are apathetic and unaware could really make a difference.

South Town Center, the lifestyle commercial center of the south, has realized its role in this growing problem of our society. An ambassador and ambassadress of charm, grace, intellect, and of good will is what we need to make a stand and lead the change in our community. Because of this, the grandest mall of the south initiated the first ever Mr. and Ms. South Town Center, hoping to start the ripples of change that our world needs today.

Kathyrene Kaye Rollins from University of San Jose-Recoletos Basak Campus (USJ-R) and Jason Jose Acha of Cebu Eastern College (CEC) bested other 14 candidates to win the crown as Mr. and Miss South Town Center 2016 held in South Town Center in Talisay City on Saturday afternoon.

The candidates were asked “How, as South Town Center Ambassadors, will they promote Filipino values and tradition?” to which Acha and Rollins gave the best answer.
“Being an ambassador gives you somewhat a lot of power. What I want to do is to maintain conservatism. In order to do this, I want to implement some conservative programs such as masses, Sunday schools, and a library where children can learn more,” Rollins answered.

Cash prizes, scholarships and the opportunity to become the mall’s official ambassador were at stake for this year’s Mr. and Ms. South Town Centre.

“I was very honored to have won the title this year. I believe that this could be a step closer to pursuing my advocacy, which is to help our environment, and to be the best ambassador South Town Center could ever have,” said Acha.

“Even though we are still young, I know that we could really initiate the plans that we have right now and be the change that everyone needs. I believe that we, the youth, have fresh and vibrant ideas on how we can help our Mother Earth. I am just so excited to implement these,” exclaimed Rollins.

“Expect us to be more than just the ambassador and ambassadress of South Town Center. We will be the catalysts for change that we need. I hope that everyone will be joining us in our endeavors,” said Acha.

They emphasized that everyone should protect the environment today so our future generations will not be experiencing worse from what we are experiencing now.

Joining their court are first runners-up Amanda Basnillo of University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and Gerome Josef Diaz of University of San Carlos-Talamban Campus (USC-TC); and second runners-up Rachel Anne Tingal of USJ-R Balamban and Nhel Albon of University of Cebu Maritime Education and Training Center (UC-METC).

From the 22 contestants during the screening process, it trimmed down to 16 as they faced various challenges during the semifinal semifinal competition last Oct. 15.
